With all of the distractions on earth, focusing on God, Jesus, and earning access to Heaven above is challenging. Raising a family, working a job, personal issues and challenges, finances, job security, pandemic, world hunger and world war, there are enough issues every day to keep us distracted.
But there needs to be as many times in our days that we can dedicate to God and focus on doing everything we can possibly do to gain access to heaven and everlasting life.
If you knew today would be your last day on earth, how would you behave? Would you worry about paying a bill? Watching that favorite TV show? Or would you spend the day praying to God for forgiveness. Reading the Bible. Saying good bye to loved ones. Forgiving old disagreements? Doing everything you could to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
Remember that each day we receive on earth is a blessing. There is no guarantee about tomorrow. Living each day as if it is your last day changes the perspective about what is important and what we should prioritize.
The needs to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Accept him in your heart. Accept that he died on a cross for our eternal salvation. Accept that if we receive Jesus, our time on earth needs to be laser focused on ensuring our place in heaven after our short earthly lives have expired.
I have a simple routine that may help you spend more time with God. I don’t get out of bed in the morning without praying and meditating on God’s word. What am I grateful for? That I was guarded through the night against the demons of the dark. That I had a peaceful, resting sleep. That my dreams were good. That I woke up alive and joyful. I also recall a verse or a scripture from the Bible and focus and meditate on God’s word. I always end with praise and thankfulness to Jesus Christ for dying on a cross for my salvation and repentance of my sins.
Throughout my day, at work, at home, at the store I look for favorable beauty in the world. It could be a heartwarming email from a co-worker, a blooming flower, a beautiful cloud formation, my car starting and getting me home. I will do an immediate prayer thanking God for letting me experience a blessing or a small miracle. I try to walk in the path of Jesus. The path of righteousness, patience, gratefulness, forgiveness, joy, peace and love. I try to smile and greet strangers who come across my path.
At night, when I am in bed, l will listen to scripture, sermons, meditation songs and music. Before I fall asleep I say my final prayers and my thankfulness for another day I can get closer to God, and Jesus Christ. I thank the Holy Spirit for being my teacher of knowledge, guiding me to passages in the Bible, gently reminding me through-out the day to pray, mediate and read the Bible.
The following is a verse from Thessalonians which perfectly sums up today’s message.
Thessalonians 5:16-5:18 Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
