In perhaps one of the more chronicled stories of God speaking to man, Moses was summoned to the mountain of God, and the burning bush.
Exodus 3:4 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, as said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
Moses was afraid to look at God, but God explained why he was present, to save the children of Israel from the grasp of Pharaoh and Egypt.
Exodus 3:8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out that land unto a good land a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hit-tites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

To further his explanation of “I AM” God said to Moses;
Exodus 3:15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

God is the great “I AM“. God further reveals his name and meaning in the book of Revelations;
Revelation 1:8 “I AM the Alpha and Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Jesus uses the term I Am throughout the New Testament.

John 8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
