The book of Ephesians chapter 4 describes Jesus Christ ascensions to heaven following his final time spent on earth and the underworld.
Ephesians 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
What were these gifts that Jesus left to men on earth? Jesus short time on earth was spent teaching the word of God, spreading the word of God through his apostles and prophets, gathering people together in churches to hear the word of God. Jesus didn’t do this in a vacuum. He involved as many believers and non-believers as possible. He performed miracles, baptisms, healing, built churches, and spread the word of God. The gifts were left to man to ensure these activities would continue with Jesus being on earth as he ascended to heaven.
Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.
These Five Fold gifts form a governing body for the word of God. Each gift unto itself is an important aspect for the continuation and growth of the word of God around the world. And while each gift is important, the gifts are designed to work together, a collaboration of checks and balances to ensure the Word of God is at the forefront and does not take on any other forms.
Ephesians 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.
The reasons for the gifts are outlined in Ephesians 4:12. These are 3 powerful reasons for the gifts bestowed us, but the most profound takeaway from what the 5 fold gifts represents as far as a final decree is found in Ephesians 4:13
Ephesians 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.
Very powerful. Let’s take a look at what the 5 fold gifts are and where you can see yourself being deployed through the Holy Spirit and Jesus.

For myself on my journey I see myself as a teacher. I have sound faith, consistent obedience to Christ. I can certainly see myself as a Shepherd and an Evangelist as my knowledge and revelations grow each day.
It is important to understand what gifts you were graciously given and are you using these gifts in your daily walk with Christ. One of the most commonly asked questions for believers or non-believers; What is my life purpose? The answer is finding out which gift you were given and how to strengthen the Word of God on your life’s journey on earth. We aren’t expected to be as pure as Jesus Christ was, but we are expected to strive for unity in our faith, and the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of fulness of Christ. We must walk as he walked and spread the word of God using one of our gifts from Jesus. Gain knowledge and be enlightened. Talk to people about Jesus, speak the word.
I pray for anyone reading this to find themselves with the word of God, to know that Jesus Christ died on our behalf, to pay for our sins, to give us eternal life. To accept the Holy Spirit into our hearts and listen to his knowledge and guidance. To pray daily and give praise to God Almighty. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
