Matthew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 4:2 And when he had fasted forth days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

Jesus was led into the desert by the spirit of God and did not eat for 40 days and 40 nights. Under most fleshly circumstances man could not survive 40 days without food or water. I can only surmise that Jesus survival was based on the fact he was not eating food, but the word of God through constant prayer and meditation. That was all Jesus needed for nourishment. Imagine not eating for 40 days and nights and then having to do battle with Satan himself.
Matthew 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stone be made bread. 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 4:5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 4.9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 4:11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
It is clear that Jesus spent the 40 days and nights meditating on the word of God and even when he was at his weakest, Jesus had plenty of power and energy to ward off Satan’s attempts at deception and mis-direction of the word of God.
Reading the word of God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is the best food for our heart and spirit. The bible is truly what we should desire for knowledge and revelation. The answers to all of our questions are at our fingertips, and the mysteries of God and Jesus are revealed to us the more we open our hearts and invite the Holy Spirit to assist us in our thirst for knowledge, answers, and becoming more consistent with our prayers and meditation.
This year Lent was observed Wed, Mar 2, thru Thur April 14. That represents the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert without food or water before his confrontation with Satan. We can honor the Lord Jesus everyday by gaining more knowledge on the word of God and be prepared if we are ever in a confrontation with Satan.
Praise to God. Praise to Jesus. Amen.
