Part 3 in the Series. Jesus’s Sacrifice for our Salvation.
In this Series we have talked about getting Saved for your eternal salvation and eternal life after death. We have discussed that the only way to God and the Kingdom of heaven is through God’s son Jesus Christ. That, “whosoever believe in him (Jesus) shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” Excerpt from John 3:16.

But who is Jesus? The son of God, The prince of Peace, The son of Man.
Let’s take a look. Jesus life on earth started with being conceived in his mother Mary’s womb of the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband was told of this miracle in a dream.
Matthew 1:20: “But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.”
Matthew 1:21: “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
So Jesus was born the son of Mary and Joseph. After Jesus birth in Bethlehem God instructed Joseph in a dream to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt for their safety from Herod the King, as Herod was afraid of the baby Jesus and wanted him killed. After Herod the King passed, Mary and Joseph and Jesus dwelled in a city called Nazareth.
The entire story of this trek can be read in Matthew 2:1-23. It is a fascinating read.
Although Jesus was the son of God, he was walking on this earth in the flesh, meaning he was still confronted with earthly temptations and sin. Jesus was only 33 years old when he was crucified on the cross, and was known as the most righteous man to ever walk on the face of the earth. Accounts of Jesus in the Bible pick up his story as a man in his early 30’s. There was one account when Jesus was 12 and was spending time in the church while his parents were looking for him in town. But Jesus adult story starts in the New Testament and his first known encounter was with a man named John the Baptist. John the Baptist who was a pre-cursor to Jesus, known as a preacher in the wilderness of Judaea, would say:
Matthew 3:2 “Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”.
Matthew 3:3: “For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.”
John the Baptist would also state that he was not the Messiah or the Savior but was merely preparing the people for when Jesus would arrive.
Matthew 3:11: I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that come after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire.
This is the essence of being saved by Jesus. Jesus will baptize and save us with the Holy Spirit. When we repent our sins to Jesus, and ask him into our heart and make him our Lord and Savior, we are asking Jesus to baptize and save us with the Holy Spirit. We will discuss the Holy Spirit at length in upcoming parts of this series.
John the Baptist would meet Jesus at Jordan, the first mention of Jesus in his adulthood. Jesus asked John to baptize him and John replied:
Matthew 3:14: “But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?”
John did not understand why the messiah would need earthly baptizing, but Jesus was of the earth, in human form, and he needed to be baptized of the earth to maintain his righteousness.
Matthew 3:15: ” And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it become us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.”
Matthew 3:16: ” And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Matthew 3:17: ” And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am all pleased.”
Jesus was blessed with the Holy Spirit and he was now walking in the light.
Jesus was now saved and blessed with the Holy Spirit just as we will be saved. But what happens next to Jesus, is what happens to us after we are saved. The devil will try to disrupt our path to righteousness, as he wants us to stay on the path of sin and destruction. So the devil will tempt and test us, challenge our new found faith in Jesus and God and try to divert us back to the fleshly sinful life that we are trying to leave. This happened to Jesus and it will happen to us. We must stay strong in our faith. Here is what happened to Jesus after he was saved; Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by the Devil. As Jesus was in the wilderness he fasted for 40 days and meditated on the Word of God. Imagine that you fasted for 40 days alone in the wilderness and in your weakened state, had a confrontation with Satan himself. But that is what happened to Jesus. He was put to the test right after being saved. Hungry and weak Satan started in;
Matthew 4:3: “And when the tempter (Satan) came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.”
Matthew 4:4: But he (Jesus) answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:5-4:6: “Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angles charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thous dash thy foot against a stone.”
Matthew 4:7: “Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”
Matthew 4:8-4:9: “Again the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheath him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Matthew 4:10: “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Matthew 4:11: ” Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Jesus the son of God, was born again on earth, born again and saved by his father, born again of the spirit and not the flesh.
